ASG proudly marks the completion of its 12th specialised initial training course for the Search and Rescue Aviation Tasking and Co-ordination (SATaC) personnel of the Irish Coast Guard (IRCG).

Pictured above at the presentation of certificates are course participants with the Director of Irish Coast Guard (IRCG), Micheál O'Toole, and one of the ASG team, Jonathan Lynch.

The course participants will play a critical role in SAR operations across Ireland. They are tasked with the complex responsibility of coordinating air and ground assets, ensuring the right resources are in the right places at the right times. It is their expertise and decision-making that often make the difference in life-saving operations.

Recognising the weight of their responsibility, the primary aim of this training course was to provide in-depth theoretical knowledge in subjects crucially relevant to SAR Aviation Tasking and Co-ordination.

Subjects covered in the course comprised:
  • Operational Risk Management: Analyzing potential threats and making informed decisions.
  • Meteorology: Understanding weather patterns and their implications on SAR operations.
  • Navigation and Map-Reading: Ensuring accurate and efficient deployment of resources.
  • Principles of Flight/Mass & Balance: Comprehending the foundational principles of flight operations.
  • Flight Planning: Efficiently mapping out aerial routes for SAR operations.
  • Air Law: An overview of the regulations governing aerial operations.
  • Communications: Ensuring seamless connectivity between different SAR entities.
  • Operational Procedures: Streamlining the SAR operation processes.
  • Human Factors and Crew Resource Management (CRM): Enhancing team dynamics and understanding human behavior in operational settings.
  • SAR Operations: Comprehensive strategies and methodologies for optimal SAR response.
  • Fatigue Risk Management & Flight Time Limitations: Ensuring operational efficacy while prioritizing personnel well-being.

Diarmuid O'Riordan, ASG's founder, commented: "the 12th iteration of our specialized training course, tailored for the dedicated search and rescue team of the Irish Coast Guard, reflects our commitment to knowledge dissemination. Their pivotal role in SAR necessitates that they be equipped with the best theoretical and practical tools. It's an honour to be a part of their journey toward operational excellence."

ASG remains committed to pioneering bespoke aviation training solutions, attuned to the distinctive requirements of each partner organization. Contact us at info@asg.ie should you have any course inquiries.
