ASG Announces Ms. Megan McGrath as the inaugural Winner of the ATPL Theory Scholarship

We are thrilled to announce Ms. Megan McGrath as the inaugural recipient of the ASG ATPL Theory Scholarship.

Megan's application shone brightly among a pool of exceptional candidates, showcasing her exceptional motivation, dedication, impressive personal achievements, and an unwavering passion for aviation. From working on the ground with Ryanair from the age of 18 to working as Cabin Crew with Aer Lingus to completely self-funding her own Private Pilots Licence (PPL) which she achieved by the age of 20 is impressive. We hope that this scholarship will give Megan the boost that she deserves to help her make it all the way into the flight deck in the future.

Diarmuid O'Riordan, ASG's founder, noted: "We were humbled by the sheer number and quality of applicants for our ATPL Theory Scholarship that we have decided to offer the scholarship on an annual basis. We hope that the scholarship can encourage more inclusion and diversity within the flying profession and to inspire potential future applicants by showing them what options are out there in terms of receiving some assistance with training to make the airline pilot career more accessible to those who might not otherwise have the opportunity. We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of our latest Flight Operations & Dispatch training course, held from April 8th to 19th, 2024, exclusively tailored for teams from SAS Connect and ASL Airlines. This rigorous two-week program provided 90 hours of focused training, equipping participants with the advanced skills necessary to excel in the dynamic field of aviation.

Our curriculum spanned key areas including flight planning, crew management, air traffic control communication, and emergency procedures, delivered under the guidance of seasoned aviation experts. Participants also delved into complex weather analysis, a crucial aspect of flight safety and efficiency.

The training rigorously adhered to the standards of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). Launch of the ASG Air Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) theory scholarship

ASG is proud to announce the launch of a scholarship program for the EASA Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) theory course to make the Airline Pilot career more accessible to those with funding difficulties.

This scholarship program is aimed at aspiring pilots who hold either a Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) or are undergoing PPL training and will be fully completed within the 12-month redemption period. The scholarship program will provide one successful applicant with the opportunity to undergo the ATPL theory course with ASG, one of the leading providers of EASA aviation training, at no cost.

ASG is committed to promoting excellence and diversity in aviation training, and this scholarship program is just one way in which the organisation is supporting the next generation of pilots. We encourage all aspiring pilots who meet the eligibility criteria to apply for this unique opportunity.

Exclusive access to the ASG learning centre which contains hundreds of hours of video tutorials, and hints and tips, created by our team to support you in every step of your ATPL theory journey.

720 hours of distance learning followed by 10 days’ (72 hours) of live lectures in preparation for your ATPL examinations (remote or classroom attendance).
All progress and school ATO “mock” exams, and Area 100 KSA assessments, required for ATO sign-off are (including two ATO exam attempts) and these assessments can be completed remotely from anywhere.
ATO sign-off to sit your examinations under any EASA authority (for example, the IAA).

While many ATO's use their day-to-day flight instructors for ATPL instruction, by using subject matter experts (directly from industry) we can focus on providing the highest quality of training. The scholarship is open to all aspiring pilots who meet the following criteria:

Must hold a Private Pilot Licence (PPL) or a Student Pilot Licence (SPL).
The offer must be redeemed within 12 months (i.e. course commencement).
Must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to the aviation industry and a desire to pursue a career as a commercial pilot.

Applications for the scholarship will be assessed by an expert panel, with the successful applicant being chosen based on their suitability. The panel will be looking for candidates who demonstrate a passion for aviation, a strong work ethic, leadership and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to excellence in training.

The closing date for applications is May 31st 2024. Applicants must complete the below application form together with a short personal statement outlining their interest in aviation and their career aspirations.

ASG is proud to highlight the successful delivery of another specialised Search & Rescue Tasking refresher course to the Irish Coast Guard (IRCG) and a visiting member from the UK Coast Guard. This course is part of our continuous commitment to offer advanced and tailor-made training to international and government organizations and emphasises the close and valued partnership we hold with the IRCG.

The refresher course is an integral component of a recurrent training program aimed at individuals who have previously completed the comprehensive SATAC course. Initiated almost five years ago, this program has benefitted hundreds of Watch Officers through numerous sessions, reinforcing ASG's role in enhancing maritime safety and SAR capabilities.

This particular session was meticulously designed to update and refine the participants' skills in critical areas including Operational Risk Management, Emergency Response Planning, Meteorology, Navigation, Flight Planning, Air Law, and Communications. The curriculum also placed significant emphasis on SAR operating procedures, Flight Time Limitations, Human Factors, and Crew Resource Management (CRM), ensuring that the Coast Guard personnel remain equipped with the latest knowledge and skills to execute SAR missions efficiently.

ASG recently concluded a two-week Flight Operations & Dispatch training program, from January 29th to February 9th 2024, exclusively for personnel from SAS Scandinavian Airlines and ASL Airlines Ireland.

The program provided 90 hours of intensive training covering essential subjects vital for flight operations and dispatch staff. Topics explored included flight planning, crew management, air traffic control communication, emergency protocols, and weather analysis. The curriculum is designed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and enhance their ability to make informed decisions in stressful situations.

This training adheres to the stringent standards of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), based on the ICAO DOC 10106 guidelines and the IOSA/IATA Standards Manual. ASG is honored to announce the successful completion of another specialized SATAC refresher course for the Irish Coast Guard (IRCG), Ireland's primary agency for Search & Rescue (SAR) and Maritime Safety. This course is part of an ongoing recurrent training program designed for personnel who have previously completed the full SATAC course.

This bespoke training, which commenced nearly five years ago, has now been delivered to over 100 Watch Officers across multiple sessions. Conducted over ten days (Nov 6th - 17th 2023), with a total of 90 hours of focused instruction, the course meticulously covers a wide array of subjects crucial for flight operations and dispatch personnel. It includes in-depth exploration of topics like flight planning, crew management, air traffic control communication, emergency procedures, and weather analysis. These modules are designed to not only impart essential knowledge but also to enhance decision-making skills in high-pressure situations.

This month, ASG opens its doors to 55 new students across a spectrum of courses, reflecting the institution's growing prominence in the aviation training sector.

The extensive range of courses, serving ATPL and PPL student pilots, aviation organizations and airlines, and government agencies, underscores the high training standards that ASG strives for. Aside from a growing number of future airline pilots, our clientele this month includes notable names such as CityJet, ASL Airlines, SAS Scandinavian Airlines, Hibernian Airlines, the Irish Coast Guard (IRCG), and the United Nations (UN). The courses being offered this month are varied, encompassing ATPL theory, PPL theory, Flight Operations & Dispatch, and Search & Rescue tasking and coordination (SATAC). This diversity in training programs emphasises the holistic approach of ASG in catering to the broad spectrum of aviation learning needs.

A significant part of this milestone is the outstanding contribution of the 35-strong instructor staff at ASG, who are industry veterans with real-world operational experience. ASG Successfully Concludes 12th Specialist Training Course for Irish Coast Guard's SAR Aviation Tasking and Co-ordination Personnel

ASG proudly marks the completion of its 12th specialised initial training course for the Search and Rescue Aviation Tasking and Co-ordination (SATaC) personnel of the Irish Coast Guard (IRCG).

The course participants will play a critical role in SAR operations across Ireland. They are tasked with the complex responsibility of coordinating air and ground assets, ensuring the right resources are in the right places at the right times. It is their expertise and decision-making that often make the difference in life-saving operations.

Recognising the weight of their responsibility, the primary aim of this training course was to provide in-depth theoretical knowledge in subjects crucially relevant to SAR Aviation Tasking and Co-ordination.
