Online ATPL theory course
ASG was one of the first EASA ATO's to embrace the concept of a "online" classroom where our students can attend their live revision classes remotely. We provide a completely online ATPL course without any "in-class" contact element. With our new hybrid model, you can even now choose to physically attend some of your revision classes ("sit in") with us in Dublin and attend some classes virtually ("login") - this provides the ultimate flexibility for your training.
Our "online" ATPL theory course is based on 3 modules of distance learning and classroom instruction totaling 720 hours of study. Training can be completed in 6 months but averages approximately 9 months. The course involves an online distance learning self-study programme which is managed and overseen by our training team through an online learning management system. Throughout your training, you will be using iBooks/iPad technology created by our training partner, PadPilot.
After you complete each module including the associated progress and final tests, you will attend a number of "virtual" ATPL refresher training days prior to sitting your ATPL examinations. A total of ten refresher training days are scheduled throughout your entire course (4 days, 3 days, and 3 days following modules 1, 2, and 3 respectively). These classes are delivered by the same fantastic instructional team who have delivered our industry-leading in-class lectures for years. Our instructors are direct from industry and can now deliver this training through our interactive, immersive, and innovative online learning platform.
Your online ATPL classes are actual classes with an instructor using video conferencing technology. All you need is your iPad to join the class - it's the closest thing to being in an actual classroom but in the comfort of your own home. The concept is simple: our "live" ATPL revision classes will continue to be conducted on location in Dublin, Ireland. Some students may be "in-class" and others will be attending by logging in. In order to ensure a fantastic classroom experience for those attending remotely, we have invested in 4K webcams, RØDE broadcast quality microphones, a dedicated instructor login station, and a classroom facing flat-screen display where the faces of those attending remotely will even be displayed to the students who are attending physically - so everyone will feel part of our new "hybrid" classroom environment!

How does the online classroom work?
For some of you, this might be your first time attending classes online. Don't worry, it's very similar to actually being in our regular classroom and our instructors have received specific training in order to make you feel just as involved as those students who are physically attending the class. We try to make our classroom learning environment as interactive and as enjoyable as possible so please don't be reluctant to engage with your instructor and indeed with one another too.
Importantly, we have also invested in RØDE broadcast quality microphone equipment and 4K webcams to deliver an unparalleled online classroom experience for your class. We have conducted a lot of research in trying to improve the student experience and we have found that sound quality is particularly important when it comes to your remote classroom learning experience. Our instructors have also all received specific training in the delivery of training to a hybrid audience i.e. with some students physically attending and others attending remotely.
As always, just like with our traditional classroom, prior to your training days we will contact you to see if there are any specific subject areas that you would like the instructor to focus on so that they can tailor the revision days to meet your specific needs. Alternatively, if you do not have a preference, the instructor will pick a sample of important subjects for revision followed by some exam question practise to help prepare you for sitting your exams.
We use a simple and widely available application to deliver our classrooms and you can download this to either your iPad, your Windows laptop or Desktop, or your Apple Mac or in the "app" store. Whichever device you decide to use, you will need to have a functioning webcam together with a good broadband internet (4mbps download speed) to ensure minimal technological disruption in class.

What about the "hybrid" classroom option?
We now also offer an innovative new "hybrid" classroom concept in order to provide you with the ultimate flexibility when choosing how you would like to attend your ATPL revision classes with us. You can now choose to sit-in or log-in for your revision classes - you can even alternate from day to day, by logging in on one day or physically attending the class on the next.

This model even allows our current students to decide to "drop in" for a subject revision if they have already completed the respective model (subject to classroom capacity).

Want to learn more about ASG?
Since our foundation in 2015, our approach to ATPL training has been characterised by providing students with a bespoke, high quality, and personalised training experience. Our training philosophy is to provide premium quality instruction which will benefit prospective airline pilots throughout their career in aviation, from job interview to operations as an Airline Pilot, and not simply to pass the theoretical knowledge examinations - although we know that's important too!
We limit class sizes to ensure the optimum learning environment, support students throughout their ATPL training journey, and deliver the highest standard of theoretical knowledge instruction. Through our high quality instruction, aside from being more likely to excel at your exams, you are likely to retain this important information, be more prepared to land your first airline job, and operate more effectively throughout your career as an Airline Pilot. Don't just "tick the box". The choice as to where you complete your theoretical knowledge training is an important one, and the determining factor should be quality. You can read a recent article which sums up our approach to ATPL training.
Each one of our ATPL instructors are selected for their practical industry experience and expertise in their theoretical domains. While many ATO's use their day-to-day flight instructors for ATPL instruction, by using subject matter experts (directly from industry) we can focus on providing the highest quality of training. We hire directly from the aviation industry and our instructors include: current airline pilots, type rating instructors, aircraft and avionics technicians, human factors specialists, military pilot instructors, aeronautical engineers, and air traffic controllers. Meet our team and decide for yourself!
